Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson who were both lawyers. After moving to Oxfordshire around the age of five, Emma attended The Dragon School. Emma aged six when she decided she wanted to pursue a career as an actress. She was trained for many years in Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part time theatre school in Oxford where she was taught acting and singing. By the age of ten she had performed and taken the role of lead in a number of Stagecoach shows and school productions. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) is the film adaption to J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel premiered for the first time in 1999. Casting agents stumbled upon Emma through her Oxford theater teacher. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone, as well as Ron Weasley told Emma after 8 auditions, that she had been picked for the role. The cast included Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. The debut of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's film debut. It was also the most profitable film in the year 2001. Opening weekend and day sales were record-breaking. Film critics praised the film as well as its performances by the three top young actors. The popular British publication The Daily Telegraph called her acting performance as admirable. Emma's performance won her a nomination and earned her five awards afterward in the film.
